While studying at Parsons School of Design, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, the men behind the label, joined forces and collaborated on their senior thesis. That collaboration eventually became the first collection for the 2002 company. The fledgling label, named after the combination of their mother's maiden names, received attention instantaneously. The first collection was bought in its completeness by Barney's New York and in 2004 they were awarded the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund award, as well as CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year Award in 2007. Proenza Schouler are recognized for their use of color on hand-painted and hand-embroidered textiles often inspired by Native American artwork. They also have a distinctive meticulously tailored aesthetic, with seams always stitched to perfection. The company is making a rise with young celebrities, and you can find their bags and other clothing scattered in fashion magazines.

Captain Edward Molyneux - Born 9/5/1891, Died 3/23/1974

Being a true Renaissance man, Captain Edward Molyneux excelled in many aspects of his life. Being a war hero, an art aficionado, a sportsman, and dressmaker to the most distinguished of clientele (including the likes of Princess Marina of Greece, the Duchess of Windsor, and stage and film personalities Gertrude Lawrence and Lynn Fontane), he eventually opened his own couture house in Paris. He was always known for his conservative "pretty and sleek," yet never matronly silhouettes. His designs were truly classic, as many have surpassed any comings and goings of trends, and remain respectfully at the peak of beautiful design.

How do you get dressed?

Every day you have to do it - get dressed and put yourself out there. So how do you decide what to put on your body? I've been asking around and there are a number of ways to go about this.

Beth - She plans the night before, choosing very carefully exactly what she is going to put on in the morning according to what she has scheduled for herself the next day. Beth is not a morning person so trying to make an impact outfit would be too challenging for her in the a.m. Starting with the upper body, deciding which jacket or blouse will work, she then proceeds to figure out the skirt/slacks with shoes coming in last.

Chrissy - Picks one item out that she wants to wear that day and everything else becomes based around that one piece. She usually thinks about her choice while she takes a shower that way as soon as she's out she is ready to gather all the items. Jewelry is usually the last item chosen.

Gechi - Is rather like Chrissy; the night before she decides on the main items to be worn the next day and then makes layers in order to stay warm.

Christina - I find myself deciding a short while before I am to leave the house what I want to wear. I usually have a mantra running through my head saying, "Go, Go, Go." I find that this procedure does not always pan out too well. I often have to just say forget it and fall back on something easy and familiar. This is not to say that I look like I am half-baked, just not as adventurous as I might actually want to be. Many times I will decide that I want to project a particular image such as; rock and roll, casual sophistate, or euro-chic. When I take that route I definitely need more time to think it all out.

Patti - Always looks pulled together. She finds that putting items on the bed and carefully laying them out with their entirety is the way to go. She will change out different boots, purses, or necklaces until she has found the "perfect" ensemble. She will decide whether she will be on her feet all day or not, so shoes come first into her mind. Next, a jacket or top followed by slacks, then jewelry. The choice of a purse always is the last decision.

Kelly and Kendra - both are last minute dressers. Kelly thinks about the top first and Kendra thinks shoes first. Kelly plans out in the mind, thinking "does this go with that." Kendra is throwing on items at the last minute. Now Kendra often purchases items that are in the same color scheme and style therefore all her pieces mix and match and complement each other.

Everyone agrees that there are a few universal decisions that must be made -

* How long will I be standing or walking?

* What is the weather doing?

* Whom will I be meeting with?

So.... I'm standing in line at the postoffice....minding my own botox....waiting to mail a Hermes bracelet to an on-line customer when I realize that there is, in the flesh, a stylish woman standing by me. Holy moly! What to do? Take a picture... Sheida, was carrying a fun Burberry bag with some great textures happening with her grey leggings and black tunic. Alas, my phone camera does not do her adorable boots justice as they were a lovely shade of purple suede. Thanks Sheida for being so pleasant and letting me snap a shot of you and your fabulousness.

Bally Tysons Galleria Opening Event

On September 29th a few of us New To You ladies were invited to the opening event for Bally Tysons Galleria. Hosted by Esquire Magazine and attended by the Swiss Ambassador, H. E. Manuel Sager and Mrs. Christine Sager. Ten percent of the proceeds from the night benefitted FAIR Fund, a DC based organization devoted to battling human trafficking of youth and raising awareness in the community.

It was a testosterone laden feast, a smattering of woman, but in all honesty it was the men in the 5,000 dollar suits that made it a happening event. There were handsome men dressed to the nines. One man was in a beautiful grey tweed suit, with chocolate leather pockets. There were men in bow ties, horned rimmed glasses and bright button up shirts... gorgeous gorgeousness all around! It was really nice seeing men who looked fantastic, because, God knows we love seeing them that way. There was only one man in khakis and a polo- Must not have gotten the memo about the cocktail attire, we did our best to put our blinders on. All in all a fabulous night!

I'm so excited about the changing of the season. Even though I do love summer with a passion, I do get tired of wearing the same thing all the time. Every year I wonder what on earth I wore the year before. I pull out my fall items and ponder what to keep and what to donate! I guess many of us have way too much in our closets and then think, "I have nothing to put on". It should not be: "sigh, sigh, I have nothing to wear and I look dumpy in that dress, and when I lose 10 pounds then I will wear those trousers," etc. It is really important to only have in your closet items that you LOVE. Your clothes should always fit, not be too big and not too small.

It is also important to update your closet often. That may sound expensive, but it doesn't have to be: spend the most money on versatile pieces to get the most out of your wardrobe. It's fun to be frivolous with the trends and go wild with a great pair of shoes or a statement handbag.

Some of the pieces that I cannot live without: leather jacket, flat black or brown boots, crisp off-white blouse, lots of scarves, and go-to jewelry.

I must be on the look out for dresses for work. I never seem to have enough, I don't know why because I do love the way dresses make getting out the door so easy. I also need blazers because they are so, so, so versatile and can be adapted to my various moods. I'm sure you know what I mean, some days I might be demure and sweet and some days I'm feeling edgy and a bit rock and roll.

The new era of counterfeiting has become almost impossible to detect. Here are 3 easy tips on how to not get scammed.

1. Check the authenticity policy when buying. If buying a used luxury item from a website or a consignment store, carefully read or ask for its sales policy.
We make sure that when taking items there is a receipt with the purchase or we even ask to see a card of authenticity. If we have any suspicions... We will NOT take it.

2. Be wary of discounts. Top luxury brands rarely offer deep price cuts on their merchandise.
Lets all be realistic here, If you see a new Chanel bag 50% off, WALK AWAY! We can only wish there was such a discount. We won't even bring down the price of a quality bag that low. It would be unjust.

3. Scrutinize websites selling the product. Counterfeiters have gotten more sophisticated in selling goods online. Examine the website for its validity, including product images—and price points. Another clue: often times the Frequently Asked Questions area contains grammatical errors.
We must be researchers... If there are weird download issues, no contact info, or grammatical errors it isn't really a good site to put your personal information on. BE SMART!

The moral here is to be wary of where to purchase. We certainly are careful, you should too.

Ladies, we all know how difficult it is to look good during sporting events. Here are a few people I found at the El Salvador vs. Panama soccer game on Sunday that show the chic and not so chic way to dress it up.

The room was filled with an eclectic mix of style, excitement, anticipation, great food, flowing wine, students brimming with enthusiasm as well as attitude. Our all time favorite gown from the show was made by our very own Kendra McCullough; not only is she talented but beautiful.

My friend Christina and I hit the Hudson downtown on M Street, N.W. last night to hear Flav and Robert sing with a "nouveux" jazz trio early in the evening around 8 p.m. When we arrived the joint was jumping with some great Frank Sinatra tunes. The lovely bartender, Antonio, let us sample a couple of different wines before we commited to a choice. Neither of us had had dinner so we decided to see what the appetizer menu offered and picked soft pretzels with mustard and short-rib tacos; both were delicious and hit the spot perfectly.
If was fun to be out and about in the middle of the week to try out a new place and to find it full of fun, great music and loads of people.

Hermes - Festival of Crafts

I visited the Festival of Crafts exhibit next to the Hermes store on route 7 yesterday (it is being held in the old Gucci space.) There were a few areas set up with expert craftsmen at each station; saddle making, scarves, watches, ties, color selection etc. In an age where everything appears to be made by machine it was quite wonderful to see how much true quality and care goes into each and every piece that Hermes makes.
There was an actual demonstration of a scarf that had 8 colors in it. I watched Henry, a man who has been working at Hermes for over 30 years; change each screen after pouring the rich, saturated paint onto the heavy white silk, pushing the paint with a squeegee (I think that is what it is called) through the perforated pattern and leaving behind the design. Talk about watching paint dry – it was exciting!!
I was in awe from start to finish; hand-sewn buttonholes, hand-made saddles, I loved watching Tony insert diamonds into a sold gold bracelet while he looked through a microscope (Tony was kind enough to take my camera and shoot a picture of the diamonds he was working on thorough his lens) There was a watch maker with all of the mechanisms for the watches in front of him as well as quite a few watches to hold and marvel at.
The show only has today and tomorrow left. Tuesday March 29, 2011 and Wednesday march 30, 201l from 11 a.m. till 6 p.m. so if this is your idea of bliss you had better get a move on.

A: I've been designing jewelry for years, but quit my day job 5 years ago to become a full-time independent metalsmith.

Q: What is your inspiration for Spring 2011 collection?
A: I continue to be inspired by the landscape and the history of the American Southwest. Where the land meets the sky at sunset. This collection is a mix of sterling silver and gorgeous one-of-a-kind stones. It's organic and earthy, with varying shades of blue, brown and pink.

Q: What tips would you give women when trying to accessorize an outfit?
A: I think fresh jewelry is a great way to wake up a sleepy wardrobe. A beautiful statement necklace or an eye catching bracelet are an easy way to add pieces that reflect your personal style.

Earlier this month, we held a "Scarf Party" at our store where guests were encouraged to come rockin' their favorite scarf. Guests came in scarves made out of cotton, silk, wool, and other fabulous materials! It was truly fun to see everyone's own personal style come out!

Bubbly was served as well as a wonderful arrangement of foods: brownies, dried apricots, mixed nuts, hummus and pita chips, and other delicious treats. Fashion, food, and drinks---a perfect combination!

Handkerchiefs!

All we ever see are tissues, tissues, tissues! We miss the whole "romantic" look of handkerchiefs. For instance, if you're at a movie and a totally heartbreaking moment happens where you can't help but shed some tears...what do you want to pull out from your purse? Some crumbled up plain white tissues or a nice vintage floral handkerchief? Wiping away your tears in a handkerchief just seems so much more poetic. Handkerchiefs are chic and very much underrated... which is why we think they should make a comeback this winter!

Here's a little on the history of handkerchiefs:

Handkerchiefs (also known as hankies) are usually made of cotton, linen, or a synthetic fabric and serve a variety of functions. Some use them for wiping their brow in a heated moment, as a decorative accessory to wear, or even as a tool to allure admirers. In the sensual Brazilian Carimbó dance, a woman throws her handkerchief on the floor and her male partner attempts to retrieve it using solely his mouth.

It is widely believed that King Richard II of England, who reigned between 1377-1399, invented the handkerchief. He was known to always take small square pieces of cloth and wipe his nose. According to surviving documents written by his courtiers, It was then that handkerchiefs were first documented to be used.

Since then, the handkerchief has been seen for many different occasions. Historically, some used a handkerchief as a white flag to indicate surrender, some used it as a bandage over a small surgery, and some used it as a impromptu way to carry small items when a bag or basket was not available.

In our store, we have a variety of vintage handkerchiefs for sale. They come in many different colors and designs, so you'll be able to pick one that goes best with your own personal taste!

My girlfriend is so passionate about clothing. She just loves it all. She owns purses galore in all sorts of textures, size and colors. She carefully chooses exactly which accessories to compliment each and every outfit. It does not matter if she is just running to the store for ice cream... she does not go out the door unless she is put together. Now this does not mean dressed up but you can be sure that her shoes, purses, tops, slacks, jewelry, and makeup all work together to the best advantage. The one problem she continuously ran into was where to store it all. One day she decided to take over the den by moving the desk into the middle of the room and buying various pieces of furniture to put around the room to store her purses, clothing and accessories. She hit various thrift shops and resale stores to find just the right pieces. She managed to find just the right furniture to complete the look she was after including a wonderful long mirror in a frame…the better to see one’s self, my dear. So, no she did not move everything out of the bedroom into the den, she still has a bunch of stuff in the bedroom closet but there is enough room in the bedroom now for her handsome husband to store some of his clothing as well.

And, they lived happily ever after.

I have been to the fair more than a dozen times in my life. My fathers best friend and family lived there many years ago so we used to visit quite often when I was a child. Fair time is always something special. It is especially fun when there is a little chill in the air. I took a few photos of the dedicated craftspeople working away as well as the people who dress up on Civil War gear. From hand carved beds, brooms, pottery, baskets, and blacksmith it is refreshing to see something truly American made.

Quick Trip to Brooklyn and NYC

I love to think of the history behind vintage clothing and accessories. I try to imagine the people and come up with a vision of who wore the pieces as well as guess what they might have been doing back in the day. It was inevitable that I should find myself in New York at the Brooklyn Museum as well as the Metropolitan Museum in Manhattan. A very kind person sent me a booklet (you know who you are) apprising me of the show in Brooklyn and then Vogue had an article about the display at the Met so I decided to pop up to see both shows. I was able to indulge myself once again in some of my favorite passions - fashion, clothing, friends and food.

The first stop was the Brooklyn Museum where I was thrilled to see the clothing up close and personal; the collections were comprised of designers that I had not heard of before as well as some that I have read about over the years. There were beautiful "four-leaf clover" dresses by Charles James that were wonderful, as well as pieces by Schiaparelli, Chanel, Balenciaga, Charles Frederick Worth, etc. etc.! The fabrics, the draping, the colors, the lace were a feast for the eyes. I kept thinking I should run back home and put on something a bit finer than I had on :) The beauty of these pieces were in the tucks, pleats, buttons, hand-stitching and the careful attention to detail, line and form.

The dresses on display began with the late 1800's (and sheesh, did the ladies have some itty bitty waists back then; they almost seemed unreal they were so tiny) and went forward through the 1980's.

It was great that the museum let you take some pictures as long as you did not use a flash. There were fabulous shoes and hats as well. They had a green velvet hat worn by Scarlett in Gone with the Wind that had rooster feet as an adornment on the top! (The guard said that there were about 7 or 8 of that hat made back in 1939 for the film).

I also took a few minutes to visit the Andy Warhol exhibit which was an additional treat.

That evening we had drinks with friends at Prime Meats where I enjoyed an "aviator", a rather innovative, tasty cocktail. After that we went right next door to Frankie's for dinner. I tried out Frankie's last year over the Christmas holidays and it was just as good this time around; Fresh, fresh food, prepared with love.

On Sunday we were off to the Met where we got free parking a block and a half away in the shade! I know...too perfect. The American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity was also brilliant. It was quite a bit different than the Brooklyn showing but both were delightful in their own way. No photos were allowed here so that was disappointing but so be it. There was a book about the clothing but some of my favorite pieces did not make the cut such as the art deco dresses and coats produced by Liberty of London.

The Brooklyn show ended at the beginning of August but the clothing at the Met is on display until the 15th of August.

ECHOs of Empowerment

We have been donating clothing to ECHO for a number of years now, but yesterday I finally had the opportunity to see the operation first hand (after several gracious invitations from the past director Pat Gauthier). It was a delightful to meet the staff (who are comprised completely of volunteers!) At the center, it seemed as if they had taken lessons from a hive of honey bees; there was such a vibration of cohesiveness and cooperation. Echo said their common goal was to help individuals by "empowering rather than enabling".

The thing that struck me the most was how tidy and organized the entire place was. Every box had a label, a clear date, and an itemization. Shelves were stacked to the ceiling with boxes of food, clothing, personal items etc. If a family came in looking for assistance, there would be no fumbling around to fill their need.

Fortunately, ECHO is supported by over 27 religious organizations as well as the United Way. They receive some of their food from stores such as Bloom and Giant. They have an incredible staff as well. I was lucky enough to meet a diverse group of workers, from computer experts to the "angel" volunteers. Their backgrounds ranged from Retired Admirals, Navy pilots, nurses, doctors, lawyers etc. and they number over 400!

Mrs. Gaultier retired after 17 years as director of ECHO, and there are two co-directors now, Meg and Marianne that took her place a year and a half ago.

While I was visiting, an "angel" was working on backpacks for children to help prepare them for the upcoming school year. They were preparing around 1000 backpacks filled with erasers, notebooks, pencils, & other school supplies. Echo's objective is to give the

impoverished children the opportunity to participate at the same level as their classmates.

Families receive pots, pans, dishes, bed linens, toiletries, and clothing. There are so many things I take for granted; it is difficult for me to understand that someone might not have the money to purchase basic necessities, such as toothpaste. Pat Gauliter told me that ECHO helps many people, in desperate situations that need assistance on such a very basic level. I think of all the hotel soaps, shampoos, & lotions that collect dust in our cupboards. Now I realize that those little forgotten items would mean the world to a person in need.

One of the biggest concerns is receiving enough coats and jackets for women, men and children. Hmmmm.....I wonder how many items like that are languishing in the back of closets that could provide some needy person with not only warmth but

maybe a bit of style and dash.

I have heard many people say that there items are "too good to donate to charity" and I have never understood exactly what they meant by that. I guess that one might be concerned that the poor or needy are really getting what is donated but I can assure you that at ECHO they really are.

The next time you are stuffing something in your cupboard or closet, take a moment to consider whether or not they are items that you really need. If not you should think about donating them to ECHO. While they accepted most things, it would be really GREAT if you washed or dry cleaned the items before you donated them. If someone is rather poor they may not have their own washer/dryer or the money for dry cleaning.

If you do have some coats, jackets, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc that you would like to pass on to ECHO you can drop them off at New To You and we will gladly pass them along to Pat and her crew to disperse amongst their many needy families.

The Fall Fashion Showcase

What a success last night was! A colossal down pour around one o'clock gave us all an ominous feeling as we were setting up. We wondered if our friends & customers would brave the bad weather. Sure enough though, the storm let up & the sun peaked out again before setting.

As guests started to arrive, the energy in the boutique became tangible. Everyone shopped, sipped champagne, and enjoyed the scrumptious hors d'oevres! A few of us even rocked out to the awesome tunes on Christina's playlist. Before we knew it, the four hours flew by & we were flipping the sign on the door to say "closed."

I can't believe how quickly it all happened, but we all can't wait to do it again!

Transitioning Your Wardrobe to Spring

We know its hard to think about Spring when there are mounds and mounds of snow on the ground (that probably won't disappear until May), but its about that time to start working Spring pieces and trends into your outfits. There are easy ways to do it and still keep warm in this winter weather.

Layer, on top of layer, on top of layer. We've said it before and we'll say it again, layering is the way to go, not just because its chilly out, but because it is actually very fashion-forward. Gradually work away from the chunky knits, and incorporate more your lightweight cardigans and pashminas and scarves. Throw on button-down shirts over a tank, add a cardigan and top it off with a pashmina over a pair of leggings or skinny jeans. Just mix it up and add your own personality into it.

Add color, prints, and florals. Its easy to pair black and gray and browns and taupes in the winter, most of us don't think about brightening up our wardrobes in the dead of winter. Well, now is the time to add that pizazz back into your routine. Try putting on a pair patterned tights or a bright yellow scarf. Break out that hot pink clutch to wear for your night out. Florals are a big trend for Spring, so wear a floral top under that a blazer...instant update.

And last, but not least...accessorize. Pretty much anything goes for Spring accessories trends, but one thing is for certain, it is chunky and statement-making, and they want us to load it on. From big necklaces and earrings, layers and layers of bangles...the more jewelry the better. Only one key to getting this look right, is to do one or two at a time. If you are doing bracelets up to your elbows, don't wear a necklace, and keep your earrings more subdued. The great thing about jewelry is that it doesn't aid in keeping you warm or cool, it can be worn any season year-round...so dip int0 those Spring jewelry trends and you will be well on your way to transitioning your wardrobe.

Help for Haiti

We are all saddened and overwhelmed by the devastation in Haiti. We cannot even imagine what the Haitians must be going through, but we can all do our part, whether it be a monetary donation or even a prayer, to keep the Haitians in our thoughts and hearts.

Some people are going above and beyond to help in this horrifying situation...Dr. Gilbert Irwin started Medical Missionaries in 1997 to help poor nations with healthcare. The focus has been on the border of the Dominican Republic and Haiti in a town called Thomassique. Dr. Irwin built a clinic in Thomassique, which is 80 miles awa

y from Port-au-Prince, and medical Missionaries have been traveling to the site of the earthquake to aid in relief.

Here, at New to You, we work with ECHO (see previous Blog 11.24.2009). We are happy to say that ECHO, with Medical Missionaries and Dr. Gilbert Irwin, will be sending numerous items to Haiti, namely wheelchairs and crutches. We are so happy to be aligned with an organization like ECHO, and are hopeful that their efforts along with Dr Irwin will shed some relief on the people of Haiti. Haori Fashion

We hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful snowfall over the weekend. It's time to dress warmly, now what we've shoveled and can run about the streets and shop.

It is difficult to dress up for the cold weather without looking like a king-size foam roll walking around- but with the right, warm items, your winter weather outfit is merely a snowball away from being chic.

A shawl, poncho, or a cape is the perfect winter staple that is stylish indoors and outdoors. We've got a few here made of wool, cashmere, oh and baby alpaca.

Fur coats and jackets of all lengths make a statement- and keeps you extremely toasty in the chilliest of winds. If you are not into wearing fur- fashion always produces fantastic pieces made of 'pretend' fur.

Current Boutique-Grand Opening Second Location

We went to the grand opening of the second location of Current Boutique on Sunday, December 13. Even though it had been pouring with rain throughout the day, it cleared up just in time for us to throw on our jackets and go to the celebration. The new shop is delightful with hardwood floors and one of those lovely old tin ceilings, painted black. The shop is spacious and there were live models in edgy clothing. A disc-jockey played music, there was champagne and shrimp and drawings of prizes, it was fun all around. As always with resale, you never know what great piece you'll come across, for me it turned out to be a fabulous blazer that I wore immediately.

5 Ways to Keep your Look Current

So, you don't want to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe every season, but you do want to keep your look current, right? No matter what the season, there are simple things you can do to look polished, without overhauling your closet:

If you want to look polished, you should be polished. Fingernail polish is an easy way to update your look from season to season. New popular colors continuously show up on fashionable celebrities, creating a craze around that color for the season. Usually nail polish colors mimic what is happening in the colors on the runways. For instance, one of the hot colors this year is Chanel's Jade, which is a pale green shade, popularized by celebrities as Rachel Bilson, that is now sold out.
Make a Statement. Fashion runways and magazines keep reiterating to us, that this season in jewelry, "the bigger, the better". To update your look for this winter season, put on a big piece of jewelry. Super-lux designers adorned their models in huge bib necklaces and bangles that came up to the elbow, designer looks. The 1980s and decades before were infamous for big jewelry, we have plenty to choose from at New to You.
Shine On. Even though it is winter, the sun is still shining and the glare is bright, so don't forget your sunglasses. This is an easy switch up for each season. Sunglasses can range in price from $3 to $500, so depending what you are in the market for, these eye-adornments can be very affordable and an easy update to your look. Not-so-Neutral. Fashion designers look to PANTONE to determine the color's of the season. Along with the good ol' black, brown, gray, and all the neutrals in-between, the colors of this season are described as intense and shocking. Take it to New Tights. Who else out there is saying thank goodness tights are back in? I know my legs could not take this cold and chafing for one more winter season. Took a trip to Eastern Market

Sunday my friend and I took the metro over to the Eastern Market. The weather was beautiful and everybody was out enjoying the summery day en mass. Ate a delicious pecan tart for a snack and it was worth every calorie. While we were down there we spied The Monkey's Uncle, an adorable resale shop for children.www.monkeysuncleonthehill.com It was a well laid out shop that caters to babies as well as older children. Oh, they also have maternity which is something that I always get calls about. We also went into Clothes Encounters of the Second Kind which is a shop that the fabulous Jane has told me about forever and I finally got a chance to visit. I managed to find three pieces for myself after digging around a bit and trying on various pieces. It was loads of fun to see all the different dealers selling everything from scarves to boots to furniture. The only downside was that I heard several people saying that the police were ticketing lots of cars for not parking properly.

Fashion Washington - One Year Old

Last night we stopped in to Masa 14 to celebrate the one year anniversary of Fashion Washington. We expected a quiet reception but instead stumbled upon a "happening". D.C's beautiful were out in full regalia - a brand new club on 14th street, handsome men in sharp suits, women wearing exciting jewelry, delightful frocks, stylish haircuts, high heels adorned with studs and rhinestones. There were some delicious cocktails and yummy shrimp, veggie pizza, and even grilled okra.

We were so excited to meet the debonair Scott Schuman, also known as The Sartorialist and to have our books signed by him as well.

It was cold and rainy on Saturday but nonetheless one after another they came in...pleasant people, people with a smile on their faces, people with good attitudes and a desire to pass it around. After 17 plus years in this business I still love doing what I do and one of the main reasons is the never ending stream of truly lovely people that walk in the door. One thing I know for certain, they sure make my day great. Thanks.

Last week I got an opportunity to go to Prince George's County Maryland to see Extreme Makeover - Home Edition building a house for a family. Oh, what masses of volunteers including MY DAUGHTER, Arianne who works at United Way (a great supporter of the operation) There were so many people working in the heat and the rain and humidity. I have seen the television show before and it always impresses me to see how many people give so much of themselves to help others but it was sure something to see it all happen in the flesh. If you have ever watched an ant farm or ant's on the sidewalk working feverishly to build their colonies then that is what I observed during the Extreme Makeover build up. Hard work, determination, skill, craftsmanship, and good feelings all around. It was a very impressive affair indeed. It will be exciting to see the final product air on television.
